Enjoy watching your local ‘Food Network’? What a perfect way to have them demo veggie only shows on Monday!
This campaign is made successful due to your participation. You won’t find us asking you for money. There is NO ‘donate’ button on any of our sites. So consider lending us volunteers a helping hand.
Pick up the phone, send out an email, and write them a letter. We’ve even provided you a template for your convenience.
Imagine what a powerful impact you can make in helping to raise the public's awareness about the connection of climate change and people’s dietary choices. More importantly how a vegan diet is the most economical and quickest way to slow down global warming.
Contact your TV stations either through email, online feedback forms, post or even phone them and let them know in the spirit of support that you wish to see pure vegetarian cooking demonstrations every Monday on their cooking show. Include TV programs that have daily cooking segments like “Good Morning America”.
Here are some suggested talking points for the letters:
-> mention Sir Paul McCartney and that the MFM campaign is supported by other famous celebrities (Yoko Ono, Stella McCartney, Moby, Sir Richard Branson, etc…)
-> it is a way for the TV networks to raise awareness of how viewers can reduce their carbon footprint, and do their bit to help the planet
-> why eating less meat means a quick reduction in GHGs (greenhouse gases)
-> include the global “meat free” petition website (www.MeatFreePetition.com) so they can see Paul McCartney and the other celebrities supporting the overall Meat Free causes
-> suggest the shows use delicious veg recipes from famous celebrities
-> if you watch the show, say some nice things about it
-> (anything else you think is important to mention.....)
Below is a sample letter for reference. We can make more of an impact if the shows receive differently worded letters asking to recognize Meat Free Monday.
SAMPLE LETTER
Dear Producers of [show’s name],
As a viewer who enjoys cooking and is also concerned about climate change, I am writing to ask you to support the Meat Free Monday campaign launched on June 15, 2009 by Sir Paul McCartney and backed by many other celebrities - supportmfm.org
Meat Free Monday is a way to encourage people to help slow climate change through reducing their meat consumption by having at least one meat free day a week. Already, there are many people worldwide becoming more aware and supporting this movement: www.MeatFreePetition.com
By showing viewers how to cook delicious pure vegetarian dishes every Monday on the show you will be supporting this worthy cause and creating a greater awareness of how people can reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) & methane emissions through dietary choices - a very quick and economical way to do so.
In 2006 the UN reported that livestock production is responsible for more global GHG emissions than the entire world’s transportation combined.
We’ve been told from various sources that we need to reduce our use of electricity or use alternative energy instead, and drive less but not many of us know that we can make a huge and quick difference to climate change through our food choices.
"I think many of us feel helpless in the face of environmental challenges, and it can be hard to know how to sort through the advice about what we can do to make a meaningful contribution to a cleaner, more sustainable, healthier world. Having one designated meat free day a week is actually a meaningful change that everyone can make, that goes to the heart of several important political, environmental and ethical issues all at once. For instance it not only addresses pollution, but better health, the ethical treatment of animals, global hunger and community and political activism."
